Ever since the beginning oft he Marvel Shared Universe it is safe to say that if you are a somewhat reasonable person, that if you liked one film or series, then you pretty much like them all. Some more, some less, but chances that you utterly hate one installment, in particular, are rather low.
By now most fans know/accepted that, which his has an interesting side effect: it encouraged Marvel Studios to take on some of their more oddball Characters. Guardians Of The Galaxy was a perfect example and considering that the managed to squeeze a success out of a movie that involved a walking talking tree and a speaking raccoon pretty much proves that as long as they can keep up the high level of quality, that they have set for themselves, character wise they can get away with anything.
So, Ant-Man was only the next logical step.
“Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.”
With a plot description like that, one can only be glad as hell that Marvel is taking the task on themselves, because almost any other studio would have completely messed it up. Remember DC’s “Green Lantern” disaster? Marvel would not want to have something like that on their track record.
Even within the range of the MSU films, Antman is one of top releases. It’s action filled, emotional and it is funny at exactly the right moments. Not exclusively, but up to a certain point that’s because of Paul Rudd and I don’t think they role could have been casted any more fitting.
He plays the lovable crook, that just wants to get his life together, who is also forced into the super hero
role, absolutely perfect and with exactly that witty charme and a tiny bit of clumsiness, that supports the role very well.
I don’t know, how they pulled this off, but they managed to get Michael Douglas (!!), to play Dr. Hank Pym, inventor of the Antman suit and original Antman. Michael Douglas! THAT Michael Douglas! Oscar-, Golden-Globe- and Emmy-winner Michael Adams!
Do I need to tell you about his performance? No I don’t. You already know, don’t you? 😀
Anyway, the technical aspects are also absolutely solid, like we would expect from any MSU release.
So, well … go watch it. Good times guaranteed.
