Terminator Genisys (2015): “John Connor sends Kyle Reese back in time to protect Sarah Connor, but when he arrives in 1984, nothing is as he expected it to be.”
Just as with the Mad Max series, I was always digging the Terminator franchise, but I was never even remotely as fanatic about it as many people are. When the first two Installments came out, people went Bonkers about it. It was one of the larger Media-Phenomenons of my youth. Anyway, with me being just moderately enthusiastic about the series might have been the reason, why I am one of the very very very few people that liked the 4th installment. Damn, I even liked it a lot. With the newest one, it’s not even that people saw it and then hated it, but that people just did not go out to see it.
Many people have written online-essay’s about this matter, so it would be redundant for me to go into detail here, but let’s just say that this film was promoted in a way that gives away, what was intended to be a major twist within the film. Unfortunately the trailer and at least one of the posters give the viewer intel that he should not have prior to the flick. Sooo, if you are one of the lucky 5 (?) people that have interest in the film, but haven’t seen any trailer or any other promotional material for this film, I advice you to check it out immediately, because spoilers are literally lurking EVERYWHERE. To be fair, there was no other way to promote the film to begin with. Ok, I stop now, you’ll know what I mean.
Ok, about the film itself. This is another one that pretty much gives the fans exactly what they want and as some fellow writer said it so well “…and what do you get if you give the fans exactly what they say they want? Disapproval, that’s right”. This one had it all: A supercute, supertough Sarah Connor, Arnie in his original terminator look, the new “Liquid Metal” based terminators, action, humor, state of the art CGI and much more.
I don’t understand how some people walk into such a film, where you know exactly what you should expect, and then have the balls to complain about it. What did you expect to see? The plot is alright, you get Terminators, you get Arnie which is something fans have been demanded for ages now, so what’s there not to like? It was the same with Riddick (see the full article here): it had all the signature Elements of every Riddick film, yet some peeps keep complaining. Yes even with the minion movie. How can one live in 2015 and walk into the theatre, pay for a ticket, pay for hotdogs and popcorn and then be surprised if the main focus of the film is …. how do I sum this up, perfectly? …. ok, I got it …. banana? What did disappoint you? That they did not recite Shakespear out if a sudden? Oh and don’t let me get started with AvP …
Ok, Where was i? Oh Yes, Terminator Genisys. Maybe not the very strongest of the sries, but definitively worth a watch.
